Try Fudy
1976 16.3h Buckskin Gelding
AQHA Superiors: Open Working Hunter, Open Jumper, Amateur Jumping
Shown here at 24 years of age
This horse has a truly amazing show history. After his rider was severely injured by receiving two 25# boxes to the head in 1993, he continued to pack her (in neck, back, sacrum and shoulder braces) around an Amateur jumping course about 10 times a year. He ignored the minor seizures, and flopping legs that had to be strapped by velcro to the stirrup leathers and girth. He continued to win while waiting for the rider to catch up with his long, easy gallop stride. At times, he literally would jump back under the flailing body. The story is told in "America's Horse", AQHA magazine. Lynn Palm calls him one of her favorites. For more on the rider's injury, go to Walmart Personal Injury Survivor.
Oh, what a ride he has given! All he asked was to be able to eat chocolate chip cookies when the class was over. There will never be another "Fudy". Just ask his fans - and the groupies who say they come to the World Show held each year in Oklahoma City in the hopes he will be there. And we all share a good laugh about the announcer always calling him "Try Fury". It's been a good luck charm! Be sure to read more about this Oldie But Goodie in the American Quarter Horse Journal's January 2002 issue.
