A FEW WORDS OF ADVICE WHEN USING FM11 SWELLINGS and/or ELUSIVE LAMENESS PROBLEMS - If you have soaked a swollen area in FM11 and see no improvement in the hom's movement, contact a veterinarian immediately. It is highly probable your horse has a greater physical problem than you initially realized. Xrays and/or ultrasound procedures may be required t o determine the extent of the damage. Be sure to inform the vet you are using FM11 as the healing rate may have been greatly increased. FRACTURES - BOWED TENDONS - LIGAMENTS - In these cases, it is wise to use muscle testing and/or radionics to determine the amount of FM11 which should be given internally. We have found fractures in young horses under the age of 1 year require up to 16 ounces twice daily and older horses require up to 32 ounces twice daily, This amount is in addition to keeping the area soaked in the liniment. It has been shown it takes two (2) weeks to build up the chemical balance a body. At the end of 14 days, be sure to have the veterinarian re-examine the injured area by the use of xray and/or ultrasound. If there is no sign of improvement 'in the integrit y of the tissue, it is time to reassess the nutritional and/or therapeutic program. SUTURE LINES -Do NOT apply directly to a suture fine. Instead, use a kotex or similar pad soaked in FM11 applied to the areas immediately beside the suture line. HERBAL INTERACTIONS WITH ALLOPATHIC DRUGS - If at all possible, there should be 1 hour intervals between the times you use any herb in conjunction with an allopathic drug. For example, if you give herbs at 8 a.m., you must wait until 9 a.m. to use a chemical drug (i.e. bute, banamine, etc.) and vice versa. Herbal therapy has been shown in some cases to delete the drug's actions. You may have spent money on the drug without receiving its possible therapeutic actions. HOCK PROBLEMS - Hocks are a difficult area to wrap. It might be of benefit to have your veterinarian wrap the hock. I have found if you cut the back out of the wrap at the point of the hock, the bandage often stays in place while the horse is free to walk around. If the wrap stays in place, just pull out the top of the bandage to give enough room to pour FM11 inside the wrap. As usual, try to keep the area soaked for 2 weeks as much as possible when not riding. HOOF PROBLEMS - Try using a long piece of fleece halter tubing with a shoelace run through the center of the tubing. Put the FM11 soaked piece around the pastem/coronary band area, then tie the shoestring together. It should be loose enough to slide up and down the pastern but not so loose to come off the hoof. I Feed: Based on a similar human product, a 150 lb. human would take 2-4 capsules or 1-2 eyedroppers up to 4 times daily of most herbs. More may be required for serious problems. Muscle testing will aid in determining amount required daily. Application Suggestions: Soak cotton wraps in liquid before applying to an area. May be used under saran wrap and standing bandages. Some persons mix 8 ounces DMSO in 1 gallon liquid mixture to apply topically. The use of DMSO should be undertaken with great caution. Please discuss the dangers involved in the usage of DMSO with a qualified medical authority. Preparations: Place 2 gallons apple cider vinegar and 11 ounce herbal packet in a 5-gallon container. Fill with water to make a total of 5 gallons liquid. Cap tightly, Allow to stand at least 24 hours before-using. Strain as required. FM 10 (MARES) Nutritional Suggestions Based on the Historical Herbal Usage by Man. Main Ingredients Include: Red Raspberry Leaves, Licorce Root, Kelp, Wild Rose Hips Historical Uses Include:Blood Builder, Circulatory Aid, Energizer, Gastro-Intestinal Problems (digestaid, nausea, carminative, dysentery, stomachic), Glandular, Hormonal Regulation, Oxidizer, Reproduction Problems (uterine tonic and strengthener, muscle contraction strength, fertility), Tonic (sense of well-being, general body functions), Vulnerary Preparation Suggestions: Mix herbal packet in a 5-gallon container with 2 gallons apple cider vinegar and 3 gallons water (distilled water is best). Allow the mixture to set for a minimum of 24 hours before use. Shake well before removing any of the liquid from the 5-gallon container. The vinegar is a preservative. Failure to fully mix the combined liquids may result in spoilage if the vinegar is removed. I Feed: Based on a similar human product, a 150 lb. woman would take 2-4 capsules or 1-2 eye droppers up to 4 times daily depending on the severity of the situation. Supplementation should begin 2 months prior to breeding. Supplementation may continue throughout pregnancy and continue for at least 2 months after giving birth, The addition of False Unicorn Root and/or Crampbark may be needed in extreme cases with a history of miscarriage. Performance Mares: I give this formula on a daily basis to my show mares. If I desire to regulate the heat cycle to a greater degree, I add 2 liquid ounces of Black Cohosh twice daily for 2 days only at the first signs of heat. This is the same manner I attempt to short cycle any mare -whether it is for breeding or show purpose. Thus, my broodmares are in heat when I'm ready to breed. And my show mares are not in heat during competition. NOTE: This formula is NOT to take the place of orthodox medical treatment, which may be required. As CSF, its employees or Candace M. I Feed: Maintenance amount of 1-2 tsp. twice day. (Approximately tsps. per 2 1/2 lbs. 400 tsps.) NOTE: During cases of crisis, some individuals may require up to 2 TBSP CSFlex twice daily for a period of up to 2 weeks. Milk Thistle Plus HOMEOPATHIC DROPS This formula contains Nux Vomica, Aconite and Belladonna. It is similar in composition to that of Bell Drops. It is used mainly for human abdominal pain. When used during times of crisis (i.e.colic), it may help reduce the painful episodes while I am waiting for the veterinarian to arrive. Some owners have been known to use it prior to competition. The recommended amount is 1/4 dropper every 10 minutes as needed for pain relief. The Stableizer is a training device which works on the acupuncture points behind the base of the ears and under the top lip. Since my Wal-Mart shopping experience induced injury, I have found it to be helpful in some cases. It is used while schooling young and old horses. For example, I use a medium (yellow) 1 on most horses to assist in a feeling of well-being when training horses to stand while being clipped, braided, load in a trailer or any other time I might be concerned of the horse's apprehension. When working with weanlings and some yearlings, I use a small (blue) Stableizer to aid in teaching them to accept standing tied, bathing, trimming, etc. Normally, it does not adversely change the horse's athletic ability. Actually, I have found it improves the horse's performance as it is able to concentrate on the task instead of its surroundings by inducing a state of well-being without the use of drugs. The size of Stableizer to use is determined by the width of the poll area of the horse. If you use the wrong size, you will not get the results you desire as the acupuncture points will not be engaged. The length of the nose is adjusted according to a set of pulleys. Hence, length of head is not important when determining size. The Blue or Small is inches long. The Yellow or Medium is inches long. The Red or Large is inches long. Though we usually don't stock them, there are smaller ones (black) for miniatures and larger ones (Orange) available for draft horses. Be sure to contact us before attempting to order a black or an orange. Saw Palmetto Berries Many halter trainers use this herb in conjunction with the FM11 to aid in the building of muscle mass. I have found it helpful when dealing with debilitated horses. However, as with all steriods, natural or synthetic, you must be prepared for attitude changes. Some horses become more aggressive. There have been cases of fertility problems when given to mares. I suggest mixing and feeding the herb in the same manner as FM11. If some cases, I feed 1-2 teaspoons or up to 1-2 Tablespoons twice daily. ECHINACEA This herb has been shown to aid in human respiratory infections. Further research has shown the herb must be supplemented for 6 weeks before any chemical changes are found in the body. Hence, the use of Echinacea after the onset of a cold will not help the body. I suggest its addition to the feed of horses which are bleeders. Often, I mix and use similar to FM11 if I want to stretch out my dollars. Or feed 1-2 teaspoons up to 1-2 Tablespoons twice daily. ST. JOHN'S WORT This herb has been used as nature's Prozac. I use it when a horse exhibits signs of anxiety prior to competition. It has long been used for low back pain and sore feet. However, there are some side effects which can be dangerous. Too much of this herb will cause bowel upsets due to the magnesium content. Be sure to watch out for loose stools. Decrease the amount fed immediately if the stools become loose. |
